Sunday 24th February 2019
For the final match of the 2018-2019 Senior Championship we returned to Nutford Form, field 1. Conditions were seemingly ideal with coloured water and fair weather. 5 anglers turned out, with 3 anglers jostling for the top placings – it was anyone’s guess given previous results.
Despite seemingly ideal conditions the fishing was hard with all measures and tactics attempted with little to show in the net.
Dave O’Loughlin won the match with 8oz; fishing the furthest peg upstream. Being pegged upstream typically has seen anglers placed with the lowest weights during a match – so well done Dave!
Once again, thank you to all anglers who managed to make it out for the day, the match results are as follows
Weights at the end of the night as follows
Peg | Angler | Weight |
---|---|---|
1 | ||
2 | Bob Steel | 0lb.02oz |
3 | Alex Compiani | 0lb.03oz |
4 | Stewart Randell | 0lb.00oz |
5 | Craig Whelan | 0lb.02oz |
6 | Dave O’Loughlin | 0lb.08oz |
We had an interesting season with long dry spells early on, with freak weather on match days which saw us postpone, then very cold weather through winter – it certainly made interesting reading for the weights caught and turn out of anglers,
A full report, tables and final positions of the 2018-2019 Senior Championships!can be found here.
Congratulations to Craig Whelan on winning the 2018-2019 Senior Championship, It was a very close call in those top three placings, our extended congratulations to Stewart Randell and Alex Compiani for their continued turn out to matches and spirit – we hope to see you on the bank next season.
Our thanks of course goes to all anglers and supporters of the club – if you wish to fish and want to know more before committing, please contact Craig Whelan on 07525 966 187, or the club via Facebook.
Our next match will be the 2019-2020 Evening Series, dates and venue to be confirmed.

Results and report from the 4th match of the BDAC Senior Championship.
Three members were able to make it out for our match yesterday; welcomed to the banks by 20mph winds gusting to in excess of 40mph – and it wasn’t exactly warm either.
Water had good colour and flow, any other day this could have been a good thing…
However, we all struggled, Stew hooked up with a minnow and small Chub, with a combined weight of no more than 4oz, with Craig and Dave having caught nothing with 10 minutes to go.
Craig chose to hit the margins and see what occurred…two fish that didn’t even register bites on the tip (or couldn’t be seen due to the wind maybe?!)! Unfortunately no bigger than Stews catches.
A tough day on the bank; our best wishes to those who weren’t able to make it due to ill health and family commitments – hope to see you all for the last match of the Championship at the end of February.

25th November 2018
Returning to Nutford for the 3rd time, we pegged from permanent pegs 13 up stream to the very corned of Field 1. There had been a distinct dip in temperature in the previous week and it’s thought this impacted the days fishing, our contingent of anglers reported using all tactics available (stick, waggler, ledger, feeder, pole) and exploring all depths across all areas of the swim (margin, seams, near/mid/far, trotting through) … and the results are telling.
Our experienced anglers stuck out a long day with Tony Beddingfield enjoying a significant turn around to last months catch, hauling in an impressive 1lb 8oz on the day. Impressive given the next best effort was Alex Compiani with 12oz followed by a draw for 3rd place with Liam Tuck and Dave O’Loughlin bringing in 4oz each.
Congratulations to Tony – it was hard fishing, seeing 3 of our anglers blank (some noting not even registering a bite!); not detracting from Tony’s efforts though – the fish still need to find their way on to the hook and in to the net! Well done.
Once again, thank you to all anglers who managed to make it out for the day.

28th October 2018
Fishing Nutford Farm again for the second match in the Senior Championship drew in the usual crowd with the welcome appearance of Club President, John Moody.
Pegged out between permanent pegs 1 – 13 saw our 7 anglers with plenty of choice for swims and variety between each peg. Those in deeper water found the fishing plentiful, Alex Compiani once again leading the weigh in with 7lb on the nose, with Craig Whelan bagging up 4lb 5oz and Stewart Randell and Dave Litchfield tying for 3rd place on 1lb 4oz.
Once again, thank you to all anglers who managed to make it out for the day.

Sunday 29th July 2018
We had half a dozen anglers turn up for the much anticipated first match of the 2018-2019 Senior Championship; weather extremes through the summer caused the first two matches to be postponed. We were happy to see old faces back at the bank and also welcome new anglers to the club matches.
Our first match was held across the first 13 pegs of field 1 at Nutford Farm; an ideal stretch with plenty of opportunity and capable of hosting many anglers if the numbers turn out.
Reasonable bags of Roach and Perch were had across the banks with Alex Compiani using the whip to great effect and bagging some superb examples of the rivers offerings.
Well done Alex on a superb bag – the best we’ve seen during a match for some years! A well presented stick float or waggler rig with maggot prove to be a reliable combination on this classic river stretch.
